When BEAR ACL Repair May Be Considered

Why BEAR is considered only for selected ACL injuries and how it differs from graft reconstruction.

What is BEAR ACL repair?

Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration (BEAR) is an implant-assisted procedure designed to support healing of suitable native ACL tissue rather than replacing the ligament with a tendon graft.

Who may be a candidate?

Candidacy requires careful assessment of the tear pattern, remaining ligament tissue and associated injuries. Not all ACL tears are suitable for repair. Risks and rehabilitation nuances help inform decision making.

Dr. Haber's approach

Dr. Haber offers BEAR in specific, carefully selected circumstances. For athletes requiring ACL surgery, he often favors patellar tendon or quadriceps tendon autograft reconstruction instead. BEAR should not be assumed to provide a faster return to sport.
